Teachers in the NT teach some 33 000 children in 153 government schools spread across 1.35 million square kilometres. Schools are grouped into six regions:
- Darwin: 28 schools
- Palmerston and rural: 33 schools
- Katherine: 27 schools
- Arnhem: 16 schools
- Barkly: 17 schools
- Alice Springs: 32 schools.
Of the 153 government schools, 73% are located in remote and very remote areas, with 46% of the NT’s total student population attending those remote schools.
Some 44% of all our students in the NT speak a language other than English at home.
