The Accelerated Classroom Teacher Practice Program allows you to gain practical experience and get paid to maximise your opportunities for employment prior to graduation.
If you are a preservice teacher ready to complete your final placement, you may be eligible to be employed at a school to fill a vacancy and receive a salary. Your placement as a preservice teacher is determined by the specific requirements of the initial teacher education (ITE) course you are completing.
Through the program, you will complete your final placement while working as a teacher and be paid an authorised person equal to 0.6 full time equivalent (FTE) or 0.8 FTE 3 or 4 days per week. An extension of placement dates is required to account for the reduced teaching load. The reduced FTE is to ensure you as the preservice teacher is given every opportunity for success.
In addition to the valuable experiences and mentor support you will receive, the Accelerated Program enables you to build relationships with students, staff, and school leadership.
Mandatory eligibility requirements for the program
- Have successfully completed LANTITE.
- Be enrolled in the final placement unit.
- Complete the mandatory Teaching Performance Assessment during the placement.
- Demonstrate satisfactory professional experience progression.
- Demonstrate satisfactory academic progression.
- Demonstrate English language proficiency (where applicable) with satisfactory completion of the International English Language Testing System English Proficiency.
This opportunity is available for both Charles Darwin University and Interstate University Preservice Teachers (subject to university approval and meeting the eligibility requirements).
Authority to Employ from the Northern Territory Teacher Registration Board is completed on a case-by-case basis and considers placement offering, context, location, stage of schooling, and compliance with the ITE degree in which the preservice teacher is enrolled.
