Natasha grew up in Tennant Creek, and knew once she started her studies she wanted to return home and teach in her old primary school - Tennant Creek Primary.
"Territory kids are fun. They are adventurous and tough. I thoroughly enjoy the classroom in the NT as the relationships you build and the stories you hear will be some of the best in your career."
"Teaching in the Territory pushes you to want to be the best in your field. You are able to deliver education to students who's environments are so vastly different from the classroom setting."
"One of the most rewarding experiences I had teaching in Tennant Creek was being one of the school bus drivers. Every afternoon, I would meet parents at their front gates and could deliver positive feedback on what their child achieved that day. Parents appreciated the news and the community relationships I built were strong."
Natasha's advice for teaching in the Territory is to "use the culture and environment around you to bring learning to life. Enable students to access the outside world by making connections with what they know in their world. Be flexible and strongly know and stay focused on your purpose of why you are teaching here."
Since her time at home in Tennant Creek, Natasha has moved to Rosebery Primary School, in the Top End Region.
"Moving from Tennant Creek to Palmerston gave me the opportunity to work in a different environment. Urban living is a completely different space to remote living. Students have different needs and commitments. The greatest opportunity I have appreciated from teaching in both urban and remote contexts is learning to adapt and gain new skills to support student needs in different contexts."
